ENTERPRISE SALES SPECIALIST (EARLY PROFESSIONAL SALES PROGRAM)

IT SUPPORT SPECIALIST

Job Descriptions

  • The Technical Support Specialist provides remote technical support assistance to customers and IBM technical personnel on a number of products, subsystems and/or systems in the High Volume product environment. Seeks and exchanges information and concepts to ensure necessary understanding of details related to problem incident or request, and ensures problem record is complete and correct. Uses specialized technical knowledge, together with support tools, techniques, and procedures, to identify and evaluate possible problem cause and solution alternatives, and to determine most likely cause(s) and solution(s).
  • Communicates action plan to the customer or IBM representative as appropriate. Reviews and recommends improvements to technical support tools, procedures, and processes. Communicates and negotiates proficiently with customers and IBM personnel as needed. Provides technical guidance and assistance to others; may serve as lead technical advisor for the team. Contributes to department attainment of organizational objectives and high customer satisfaction
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of multiple complex work stations, personal computers, basic servers, printers, sub-systems, and/or point of sale devices and their attachments, including LAN and WAN connectivity, hubs and routers. Must possess a strong operational knowledge of WINDOWS, NT and/or AIX or other operating systems, application programs, system diagnostics and remote support structure. The position requires an in-depth understanding of the relationships between microcode, operating system and application programs. An in-depth knowledge of system configuration options, port structure, memory management, and network connectivity is also required. The position requires a comprehensive knowledge of electronics, excellent mechanical skills, and knowledge regarding effective use of support-level tools. Excellent written and spoken communication skills are a significant position requirement, as is the ability to provide information and direction to others in a clear and concise manner. The individual must also possess unmistakable leadership skills and be so recognized by the center
  • Has an in-depth understanding of and is able to fully articulate IBM’s service delivery and technical support methodology

System Admin Engineering and Provisioning

  • Install new/ rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, network devices, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures

Operations and Support

  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, network devices, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary

Maintenance

  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure/ add new services as necessary
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning

Job Requirements

  • Have College or Bachelor degree with a technical major such as engineering or computer science
  • Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Microsoft, Linux and Network
  • At least 1 year of system administration experience
  • Having experience with MS Exchanger server or Cisco Network devices is a plus
